Each registered domain name has no less than two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain to the servers of a certain hosting provider. In this way, you have got both your site and your emails managed by the same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there are a number of other records, for instance A and MX. The first one shows which server deals with the website for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter shows which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, whenever you enter a domain address in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you could be directed to the servers of another provider in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain address. Having different records for the site and the emails means you may have your site and your emails with two different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account through our company and you wish to move either your website or your emails to a different provider, it's going to take you literally only two clicks to do it. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default 2, it is not going to take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you modify or create is not going to take more than a few hours and if necessary, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will remain active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

With the Linux semi-dedicated hosting packages we provide, you are going to have 100 % control over the records of all domain names and subdomains you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records every one of them has through the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and editing any record takes as little as a few clicks. If you choose to change your web or email hosting provider, you can update the necessary record and direct your domain to the other company for one of the services, while you still continue using the other one through us. You can also keep the main domain name here, while you change the A record of only one of its subdomains. When you're changing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the standard 2 we have, you can create them with ease and set a different priority for each one.
